Seems it is now possible to boot backups on unmodded consoles without the hassle of using PSO and a network adapter
I just booted my import viewtiful joe using my max drive pro, without the use of freeloader o/ (and the same method works for backups but i cant test that yet)

Hmm, any links to this method? How do you do it?

and how do you get burn 'backup' disks? Can you buy blank ones? If yes, then from where?

I believe he's talking about this. There's the possibility of booting from GC disk images on a PC's hard drive over the network adaptor, I have no idea about the possibility of mini DVDs being executed.
    Nice idea though!
/Ponders using the GC port of Snes9x with his Wavebird
    Only problem is that I still don't have a replacement Cube ;_;

Far from it, and that method is no different too the pso method, with the exception of using a different app. (and its frankly past it)
It's actually a hacked, and further developed executable version of the BIOS for the vipergc modchip. With the benefit of running from memory card rather then a modchip

I see. Interesting. And since there is no real online scene for the gamecube there is no incentive not to flash the bios.
Small dvd's are available from most stores that have a good amount of writable media, soumis. I heard the ritek g04 disks were best for comatibility.

    Thanks.
It seemd to require a lot of fiddling and soldering.

If you scroll down near the bottom 'mr chips' gives a rough idea of how to do it.
there are easier and less hazadous to your cube ways of doing it
You just need a way of getting the save to a mem card - adding extra hardware is unessecary

Could you enlighten us of these methods? Or are you just going to stay mysterious about it?

I like mysterious I'm not going to just point you right to it, especially when you are on the right track.
I gave a bit of a hint in my first post....

I mean why make a forum post about it if you arent going to embellish upon it?

Indeed, this isn't Hints. If you know something tell it, or don't, but this is just a silly way of dragging a topic out for longer then required.

i never said I was telling poeple, I was just commenting that it can be done. Saying it can be done isn't an indication of saying *how* it can be done.
and Furbs is a winner o/

Thanks, that was really useful then
I could understand if it was a case of Xbox Scenes 'usual places', but all you had to do was give some sort of link to forum post.
All you've done is just wasted about an hour of several peoples time. OK, you bought it to our attention (thanks!) but it would no doubt come to light sooner or later, just without having to jump through hoops.
It's still telling people how to bypass authentication routines on consoles, which is hacking. I don't post links to console hacking on the pages of Eurogamer

What I want to know is where the hell you managed to get a max drive pro from, nowhere seems to have them in stock.

Heh, turns out I have the files necessary to do this already on my HD.
Now I only need a gamecube....

Hacking? My ass. There's allot of people here who play import titles and would love to know an easy way to do it and there's noting wrong with that.

Yeah, I had that problem getting the standard version. Datel sell them direct. They were also gracious enough to send me a max drive pro when I only ordered the standard version I *think* the AR Max Evo edition has the pro software as well (the difference is literally just in the gamecube disc - the pro has a option to run hombrew, the standard does not

er, if you want an easy way to play imports, then you buy an action replay (which includes freeloader). This is not a replacement for freeloader if you only want to play imports. GAME sell the Action Replay for £10, and although their packaging is slightly different and doesn't advertise Freeloader on it (for obvious reasons), its the same disc that Datel sell direct (I bought mine from GAME so know this rather then just saying it)
Boot the machine using AR, swap the disc, then play. Which is cheaper and easier then getting this running if you just want imports.
Although i'm sure you knew that all that already, as Freeloader is far from an unknown program.

yeah. maxdrive pro lets u run them, though u either need mini-dvdr or a new case that lets u use full-sized dvdr (cheaper)
and some peopel also use the SD-memory card and action replay to do the same from what i've heard.... well. the modded viper bios certainly mentions SD-card memory stick also.

how do you use mini dvdrs when the GODs read from the outside in and the data is spiralled the opposite way precisely to stop people being able to burn their own?

It doesn't, that was just a FUD. The protection is based on a barcode on the disc. The GC is extremely sensitive about the disc quality though, with Princo media mine crashed all the time, with Traxdata Ritek it works much better (using a Max Drive Pro).

so let me get this right. with action replay you can now swap trick gamecube games? does action replay bypass the barcode check?
Don't think the Action Replay will be enough, unless it was bundled with the Max Drive Pro-disc which lets you start program from its mem card.
    1. You boot the Cube with the Max Drive Pro disc
    2. You run a loader from your memcard
    3. you swap
    voilá.
edit:The trick is that the loader/modified BIOS reads the barcode from a legal disc, then it halts for eight seconds to let you swap.

Sooooo...where can one find this info? I have an American Cube that I cant run Rebel Strike on (Freeloader doesnt like it) so I actually have a legitimate reason to use this

Action Replay/Freeloader for GC on Wii. This is a discussion on Action Replay/Freeloader for GC on Wii within the Wii General forums, part of the Wii Chat category; AR/Freeloader works for the Gamecube part of the Wii on the default firmware. I'll check if it still works on. Reports are in that the GameCube's Freeloader and Action Replay will both work on Wii. GameCube homebrew applications are also rumored to be working. Freeloader is a disc that allows importers to play games from other regions. Action Replay is used to enter cheat codes for games.
