This is a bit of a quickie tip but I scratched my head on it for a few hours one day.

Somehow CTRL + SHIFT + J is registered as a linebreak. To replace commas with newline characters use this formula (assuming that the text to be altered is in cell A1): Edit: here's a screenshot of this working - I had to turn on 'Wrap Text' in the 'Format Cells' dialog. This will replace each comma with a new line. Start a new line of text inside a cell in Excel. To start a new line of text or add spacing between lines or paragraphs of text in a worksheet cell, press Alt+Enter to insert a line break. Double-click the cell in which you want to insert a line break. Click the location inside the selected cell where you want to break the line.

If you use Office:Mac Excel, you may from time to time need to capture multiple lines of information into a cell. If you come from the Windows world, you will quickly come to realize that Alt+Enter doesn’t work.

How to extract the first or last line from a multi-line cell in Excel?
